Several Google+ accounts were hijacked bythird-party hotel accounts last week (but the hacking could have been going on for as long as a month). Google has not commented on the situation but has restored all the correct links. If you are a hotel, we do recommend checking that your Google+ listing is currently correct.
While Google remains tightlipped on the situation but acknowledging the link edits, there has been rampant speculation about what caused the hijack. Some SEOs who focus on local search speculate that MapMaker was hacked or experienced an error, that a bulk upload of the links may have happened to unclaimed pages or that the files were overwritten by an old dashboard someone hacked.
Was your account hijacked? Do you have information on what caused it? Do you think it could happen on Yelp, TripAdvisor and other listings?
